
The World Data System is proud to have these organizations as members in our continued mission to enhance the capabilities, impact, and sustainability of our member data repositories and data services by:
- creating trusted communities of scientific data repositories,
- strengthening the scientific enterprise throughout the entire lifecycle of data and all related components creating first-class data that feeds first-class research output, and
- advocating for accessible data and transparent and reproducible science.
National Collections and Marine Infrastructure (NCMI) Information and Data Centre (Candidate Member)
The NCMI Information and Data Centre within CSIRO’s National Collections and Marine Infrastructure Business Unit plays a significant role in managing marine data in the Australasian region. The IDC develops and maintains a range of data management systems and tools, including “CAAB” (Codes for Australian Aquatic Biota), a master species database which provides names and codes for some 44,000 marine species which occur in Australian and adjacent waters. They also curate Marine National Facility data sets that were collected during research voyages by research vessels.
Latin American Initiative for Open Data (Network Member)
The Latin American Initiative for Open Data (ILDA) connects stakeholders across Latin America to promote the use of open data as a driver for sustainable development. By advocating for inclusive and transparent data practices, ILDA fosters innovative approaches to policy-making and scientific collaboration in the region.
4TU.Research Data (Regular Member)
4TU.Research Data is a research infrastructure, community, and training provider led by a research consortium of Dutch technical universities specializing in data archiving and sharing for the technical sciences. With a focus on supporting FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) data principles, they empower researchers to store and share data that accelerates impactful, reproducible research.
Ocean Tracking Network (Regular Member)
Based at Dalhousie University in Canada, the Ocean Tracking Network (OTN) deploys state-of-the-art telemetry technologies to monitor marine life and ecosystems worldwide. Their comprehensive database supports conservation efforts, fisheries management, and the understanding of global aquatic biodiversity.
