Maui Hudson, an indigenous scholar from New Zealand, presented a webinar on applying the CARE Principles for Indigenous Data Governance to ecology and biodiversity research. He discussed how Collective benefit, Authority to control, Responsibility, and Ethics (CARE) can guide researchers and institutions in ethically and equitably working with indigenous communities, especially in ecological and biodiversity data collection and stewardship. The session explored practical approaches for honoring indigenous rights and interests in research conducted on indigenous lands, with Hudson sharing examples and recommendations relevant across scientific domains.
